We’ve been there. One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned (and it took getting to our 40s and 50s!) is that your work will not speak for itself.
Showcase what makes you special to stand out and be visible!
Here’s how it works:
Think of 1-2 words or phrases for each question and then string them together for your special sauce recipe:
1. What’s the WHY behind your work? What gives you purpose?
Examples: Achievement, power, money, altruism, social impact

2, What’s the HOW behind your work? What work culture is best for you?
Examples: Collaborative, straightforward, respectful, creative, innovative
___________ ___________ ___________
3. What’s the WHAT behind your work? What skills or talents do you bring to the table? (these can be technical or transferable skills)
Examples: Writing, analytics, strategy, finance, legal, communication, problem-solving

Now review your responses and prioritize what speaks to you today. Not who you were 5, 10, or 15 years ago. Who you are NOW. Use those words or phrases to write 1-2 sentences describing your special sauce.
Here’s an example of putting it all together: I’m a go-getter who wants to make a difference in the world, collaborating with others and using my finance skills as a force for good.
No two people have the same special sauce because you each have your own background and set of skills and expertise. Once you identify yours, you’ll be more comfortable talking about your achievements.
Your special sauce helps you claim your worth in the workplace. No one will tell you that at work. But it’s a secret worth spreading if you’re ready to take control of your next chapter.
