Can you Hit a Career High in Midlife?

Updated: Apr 11, 2021

“See yourself in a way that others may not, because they’ve never seen it before.

But know that we will applaud you every step of the way.”

- Kamala Harris, Vice President-elect

Ever wonder if you can hit a career high in your 40s, 50s, 60s? Yes you can! Kamala Harris is the first woman, Black and South Asian person to win the Vice President elect -- and she’s 56!

If you’re like us, you’re waking up feeling there’s more possible for you in midlife, too!

Here in the EvolveMe community, you know we're evolving right alongside you, trying new things every day. And we’re so grateful. Because of you, we have a milestone to celebrate!

Happy reinvention to us! It’s EvolveMe’s one year “launchiversary” this month. We can’t believe how much has happened since our first meet up in New York City with an amazing group of women -- you know who you are!

Since that time we’ve pivoted to become a digital company and we’re thrilled to reach women in career transition across the country -- and even the world! Our first signature 8-week training SOLD OUT this fall, the Reinvention Collective.

And we’re honored to work with two dynamic cohorts of women who are committed to reimagining their careers, even during the pandemic. This is why we created EvolveMe -- to pay it forward!

Many of you were among the hundreds of women who attended our webinars this fall -- the need is real. The headlines are everywhere and they’re staggering. Women have been hardest hit by a perfect pandemic storm and their careers are at risk of “falling apart” as one article this week said.

You’re not going to settle for that, right? We didn’t think so.

If this moment continues to show us anything, it’s that our most challenging times can shine the light on what’s really important -- and it can make you feel even more alive. Don’t throw in the towel!

Start by sharing what you’re feeling with other women. When you’re vulnerable and let go of perfectionism, amazing things can happen. We know you’re drained. Maybe you’re overwhelmed. Anxious. Impatient. You’re wondering if you’ll ever get a job at “your age”.

Now, wonder with other women and see the game change.

Let down your guard and you’ll see that other women are experiencing much the same. Say goodbye to feeling like a failure. Or a fraud. Or not good enough. In fact, sharing your feelings of anxiety gives less power over you. Who wouldn’t want that?

You’ll know you’re not alone and you’ll keep going. For yourself. For your career.

This month we’re finding inspiration in the EvolveMe Reinvention Collective community from brave women who are generously sharing their stories and expertise with us.

Career reinvention is an inside game -- see what women who’ve made it to the other side share about how you can build confidence like a muscle:

  • Your resilience reveals your gifts. Christina Sanford, keynote speaker, shares how she found her gift of speaking and empowerment in the wake of professional disappointment. It was only after she was forced to close her business - which “shook her to her core” - that she uncovered a new talent.

  • Start with your strengths. Michele Mavi, positive psychology coach, reminds us that rather than fixing our “weaknesses”, we should double down on our strengths. Imagine that -- owning our strengths in order to be our best selves. You don’t have to be everything! Phew.

  • Show up virtually as you would in person. Tania Sterl, Founder of Sterl on Style and Alyssa Peek, of Peek Photography share tips on how to develop a virtual presence and shine online. Think about dressing for the “future you” and the energy you give off - it will help to connect your image with your career aspirations so you can start playing the part!

  • “Own it until you hone it." Robyn Hatcher, certified virtual presenter and speaker underscores how important your “intro-mercial” is for career transition. Share a compelling story about where you want to go and how you can add value. Rather than “fake it until you make it” she advises to powerfully “own it until you hone it” -- we’re all works in progress!

Want to end 2020 strong? Do what makes you feel more alive. Your future self in 2021 thanks you!
